| LHI
is a non-profit organization based in Portland, OR that
has awarded over $100,000 in home ownership assistance
grants to individuals and families throughout Oregon.
The financial assistance that LHI has provided has definitely
lowered the minority home ownership gap. Through continued
partnership financial support, LHI plans to award thousands
more to additional deserving families in the future.
LHI'S
mission is to close the homeownership gap for Latinos
and other
low-income individuals and families.
The
Latino population in the Portland metro area is flourishing
wiht more families moving into the area to join those
already well established here. One key to their success
will be buying a home. Homeownership is the most stable
wealth-building tool for a family. Yet, the current homeownership
rate for Latinos in Oregon is about 37%, which is significantly
less than the national and statewide average according
to 2000 Census data. |
